Eleuthera | Abaco, Bahamas

Abaco, Bahamas

The Abacos were first settled in the 18th century by pro-British colonists fleeing the US after the War of Independence ended in 1776. At various times, the economy was based on cotton, fishing, boatbuilding, and salvaging damaged ships.

Today, Abaco is vibrant. With excellent boating, fishing, and scuba diving, Abaco ranks high among the tourist destinations in the Out Islands of The Bahamas. Eleuthera is a private development, which is master planned by international firm, EDSA, drawing upon New Urbanism principles. The architectural character of the town draws upon the British colonial and Caribbean influences of the Bahamas, reimagining and reinvigorating traditional archetypes for modern living.
